Warehouse Inventory Management
Our teams created a system to optimize warehouse inventory operations by implementing a technical and procedural roll out of scan put away.
Context
Client operates a national string of storefront locations, with many locations selling millions of dollars in inventory daily. Key locations operate as both a storefront and as fulfilment centers for online orders, adding additional strain to inventory operations.
Solution
Create and leverage a centralized system to manage and track configuration changes and RBAC controls across thousands of Windows and Linux virtual machines. This allowed for automated rollout of software and RBAC settings across multiple environments.
Details
Through the discovery phase, our team identified two key risks with the current inventory process.
First, inefficiencies with the scanning and tracking system resulted in added labor costs. Second, these inefficiencies lead to accuracy issues and unstable inventory lifecycle.
To address this, our team developed and guided the client through implantation of a new ‘Scan and Put Away’ workflow. This workflow accounted for several missing use cases, such as non-existent items, trial products, items requiring recategorization, and more.
In addition, our team was also able to identify critical business intelligence metrics available during the ‘Scan and Put Away’ process, such as quantifying revenue loss due to undocumented items and identifying expired agreements for the procurement team.
Results
As a result, our client was able to reduce labor expenses by nearly 40% in fulfilment centers and increase inventory accuracy. Additionally, the client was able to catch renewals sooner, allowing them to maximize discount tiers with multiple vendors.
Overall, our client realized several added benefits on top of their original requirements. We were able to roll the change out company wide ahead of schedule as we were able to coordinate efforts between technical teams and site management.
